Got the forum up and running and I love what Flarum is becoming. Clearly it's beta and I expect things to not work 100%. You guys are doing awesome work here and thank you Brandon for what you are doing. One thing that is missing from the announcement (I think) is if there be a way to export down the line? Like most, I have my own servers as well and I want to make sure I can test the beta 5 and be flexible enough to export it if needed so I can have my own access to cPanel, SSH, and custom addons? That was a huge run on sentence...my apologies.

I just want to make sure that I can do more than just test down the line.

How about just providing a docker image and give everyone a dockerized version of flarum and access to a database automatically ?

Then there won't be issues with security or extensions.
Also there will be harder ways to make lots of money from flarum :

Offer a professional conversion/hosting service to people who have xenforo/IPB/vbulletin because they have the money and they will pay.
There is the option to offer a 'professional' version of flarum which would be able to have multiple failsafe frontend proxies, many people use cloudflare on big forums but flarum could solve ddos by isolating the backend from the frontend entirely through proxies and have frontend servers in multiple places.
There are themes, currently we don't really have themes but once someone puts forward a complex UI kit/tutorial on envato/youtube for the frontend flarum will have dozens of good themes.

Docker is an option, but I don't know it's necessary or wanted. The resource overhead will likely outweigh the added benefits.

As per front-end/back-end isolation. This is planned for production. We're taking a multi-pronged approach to dealing with DDOS, though I trust you understand even services provided by cloud-flare have their limitations (and potential security-risks).

DigitalOcean is an IAAS provider. That's infrastructure as a service. They provide you with an unmanged virtual machine. We're a SAAS provider, offering the flarum software as a service. It's managed, which means you don't have to worry about messing with the server at all.

We'll also be offering a lot of perks like https from the get-go, frequent local & remote backups, restore, and a web-management panel where you can handle common tasks from within your browser.

We're getting quite a few responses with good customer feedback as is!

I had to close down registrations again due to the popularity. No reason in over-committing this early in the stage of development!

The point of beta hosting is primarily to get feedback from customers, and to fix any major issues before our production launch. We love that we're providing free forums for members of the community, but trust people will understand there's a lot of hard-work involved in ironing-out the kinks that show up through the beta. As we stabilize the current set of circumstances, we will add new features that may introduce a new set of issues altogether!

Patience is definitely required of our testers, and as always through beta we don't recommend using the service in production until a stable release of the software is rolled out, and we have had enough time to thoroughly test our hosting platform through the rounds.

If it weren't for me hosting a Flarum forum then I'd definitely be in for this. I'm also interested to know what sort of pricing is planned. Are there any confirmed figures at this stage or is that still being discussed?

I'm weighing up the prices of all of my projects and sites at this stage so budgeting is key.

Send an email to support@flarum.com if you're having issues after registering on the form.

As an answer to all who will be using a custom domain name, yes an a-record for "@" and "www" needs to be made if you're using the whole domain. If you're using a sub-domain, just a record for the subdomain, ex "forum" for forum.mydomain.com needs to be made.

Our beta server is not hosting the DNS directly, so no need to change the nameservers.
