is there any extension that can read text loud?

is there any extension that can read text loud, for example, once the discussion is opened when the user hits the speaker icon it will start reading the text. these days using google keyboard we can compose text by voice but google did not develop anything like read text by selecting.... maybe we can add a button taking to google translator passing entire post text in URL and the user will open the link and hear it by hitting speaker icon again he will come back to the discussion windows to reply.

010101 I have seen your audio player extension and thought of asking you but did not disturb you 😬

I was testing this for a youtube channel that has around 150k subs it's a non-profit, everyone usually asks so many learning questions in our forum. We would like to answer questions in a video format, but self-reading lots of questions is hard compared to listening. so we usually copy text to the translator and play it then we reply in voice .. yeah we are bit lazy to punch the keyboard all-day 😁

but if we integrate something like speakable we can not select the language in my case going to google translator is the ideal solution we can just select hindi or tamil or telugu languages and if the user has posted not in English language it will not cause any trouble while playing. google language voice is quite good it almost sounds like hearing native language

clarkwinkelmann after reading this I have tested Microsoft edge for android it has read aloud mode and its supporting multiple languages

But I still prefer going to google overall. if you are planning anything kindly add a button to the post options or speaker and take to the google

I assume that many assistive text to speech services available online are plug-and-play with Flarum. Unless they have special edge cases for single page apps, many services let you just drop a javascript snippet on the page (which is possible from Flarum admin panel) and you're good to go. Those services are generally not free though.

I've always wondered why those tools were even offered as website add-ons since they don't offer any particular setting/integration options and the users who need those assistive technologies likely already have OS or browser tools that do it on all pages.

Edit: Or, it could be handy for someone who just doesn’t feel like reading at the time. It’s a very long post, they are cooking dinner, so they play the page.

But, unless you pay for something nice, the free options aren’t going to have a really nice human-like voice. Which is a bummer.

010101 Exactly, everything has pros & cons . all the inconvenience only occurs on mobile. when it comes to desktop we can do all the things very easily by opening a new tab or using chrome extensions.
