Definitive hosting guide?

Hi all,

I've been able to piece together some recommendations for Flarum Hosting by reading previous posts. Is there an official guide?

For instance, I've read namecheap has any easy way to setup Flarum, but not the best speeds. Inversely, I've read the fastest servers/hosts may not provide any easy way to set up Flarum.

Appreciate any guidance here! I'm in the U.S. if that matters.

Hi! I've done it over SSH which grants you access over the entire server, there is a official doc for setting up flarum using NGINX and Ubuntu 18.4

trever-s I switched from a VPS to Namecheap's Stellar Plus shared plus plan and I haven't really experienced any performance issues. In fact, they give you Composer v2 out of the box once you enable SSH in your cPanel 🙂 It was a pretty easy setup and all I really had to do extra was follow the Customizing Paths portion of the Flarum docs to get the final pieces together. The bonus of having shared hosting is that I don't have to set up a mail server or even purchase a mail service at that 😂 I never had an issue with Namecheap support either and for the record, I'm not affiliated with them in any way; I'm just simply lazy 😄

Thanks so much, BAANAN . I'm very intrigued and may take you up on that offer. Do you foresee any latency issues because I'm located near Seattle, WA? I see there's 1 location in the USA.

There should not be a big latency issue, for me the servers have not died at any given time unless i killed it.

I do recommend picking a server in the USA in your case though!

Ralkage Thanks Ralkage! This seems like more my speed and skill set. I assume the approach @BAANAN is suggesting will require quite a bit more work?

trever-s I've never used Contabo before 🙂 my experience is with NameCheap and eons ago I used HostGator before they were acquired by another company and my experience kinda went downhill from there with them 🙃
