We all love our Flarum and its vastly existing ecosystem. One part of that is the many different language packs that are available. One of the major challenges of an Open Source project is ensuring longevity. As of right now, language packs are tied to single persons (and their respective repositories). If one of those awesome people maintaining their language pack becomes unavailable, this means the repository changes. Therefore all users of this language pack need to change something as well.
In consequence, the Flarum-lang (https://github.com/flarum-lang) initiative has been launched by @luceos. What's the objective? Hosting all language packs on this official repository managed by @Justoverclock.it and @GreXXL so that they are available for all end-users under a consistent package even if at some stage the contributors may change. Also, we have the possibility to use Weblate from @rob006, which makes it easier for non-tech savvy people to maintain a language pack!

I currently am responsible for a language pack and want to join!
If you are currently maintaining a language pack, we would very much like to welcome you to host your code within the flarum-lang repository instead of your own. You will receive Admin-Privileges to your according to language repository.
If you are currently using Weblate, we can move your repository together with rob. If you haven't used Weblate and don't plan to do so - it's still your choice, of course. Also, it's your choice if you want to bring in multiple people to help maintain your language pack. In case of absence, the flarum-lang team will give additional people access to keep the language pack maintained.

I am new to this and want to create a language pack for a new language!
It would be best if you approached the flarum-lang team by replying with your intentions in this discussion. It depends on you if you are tech-savvy and want to manage your language pack manually or if you want to use Weblate. If you want to use Weblate - add that to your post so rob can hook you up accordingly.
I want to contribute to an existing language pack!
If you want to help to translate and there is already an existing language pack, we would recommend you post here. In case it's activly maintained by someone, this person will be reviewing your request. In case it's a non-activly maintained language pack, the flarum-lang team will get together with you to reinstate translations.
We are delighted for this initiative to happen as it provides additional stability in the Flarum ecosystem - very similar to what Friends of Flarum is doing with extensions. We are happy to hear your feedback and hope many language packs are going to join!
