dragsugur honestly, you are completely missing the point. The thing is, for you private messaging might be necessary or polls, for others it might not. Being forced to have private messaging installed when you don't need it (for reasons like batato mentions), in my book is called bloat. All this forced functionality is what impacts performance, usability and your digital footprint; something we actually value for our users.
Core, in itself, is whatever is left when you uninstall every extension, even the first party ones. This includes Tags, Mentions and all others. In no way did I ever say that there won't be a first party private messaging extension, I only said it will not be part of core.
In fact, building an extensible, scalable and slick private messaging extension is still on our radar, but considering all other priorities and milestones, and that we are a completely open source project, means that we can only work on something like that when we have the time or the budget for it. Things are changing though and I can imagine that a decent DM system will be the result of that somewhere in the future.
