I'm not sure if that's actually a bug or not, this might be the intended behavior.

We have not enabled private discussions for members on Discuss. Only moderators can start a discussion with you.

So it's normal you can see the list of private discussions, but not start new ones.

Ideally we shouldn't show the tab unless you have received at least one private discussion but I doubt this feature is implemented in Byobu (and it's probably not that easy to do)

but why is the reason? To avoid Spam?
I view thats private discussion for member are good. To avoid spam maybe need x minimun posts in the forum to chat via private with other member.

Yes, to avoid spam was among the primary reasons, others have been resolved with recent improvements to Byobu.

I understand this is a much-desired feature for some discussions, we're looking at ways to resolve it soon.

almalino is only for staff at moment, and is byobu extension
