Unread posts and posts counter (1 when unread, 0 once read)

I’m sure this has been discussed but I wasn’t able to quickly find past threads about this so I’ll just ask.

Why is it that when a thread is unread the post counter adds 1? So if there are 0 replies, but unread, the counter shows 1. Once the topic is read, the discussion will no longer be bold (good), but now the counter is 0. Or let’s say there are 4 posts. If unread it says 5. Then as soon as you read it, the counter is 4. I see it here at discuss and my own forum.

Normal behavior? Known?

I think it simply shows the number of unread posts (considering the first post). Once read, it shows the number of total replies (Not considering the first post, only replies).

for example, if a discussion has 15 replies that you have read it would show the number 15, then 2 replies were added, it would show 2 with a color indication until you read them and it would show 17 again (total)

Mark73 Thank you! Makes sense. Hopefully I remember this and don’t ask about it again in a year. I’ve been using Flarum for about 2 or 3 years. But sometimes I don’t notice obvious things. 😅

I feel like this could be something I knew. Then time passes and all of the sudden it looks new to me for whatever reason.
