Detect users with the same IP address

My suggestion is an extension that detects if the ip address used when signing up has been on the website already or not. It can check for posts' ip addresses as it's the only current way, or maybe add a functionality to log ip addresses upon sign up and then check if it has been used again for sign up.

Use case:

forums that allow only account per person... Could be siblings but that would be a different scenario
Preventing spam, in some way.

clarkwinkelmann perhaps the admin dashboard, something like your audit log extension where such info could be accessed.

What would happen? it depends, if my forums for example allow only one account, it should prevent them from creating another one with a pop-up stating that you can have only one account. If that user was a spammer/banned then it would state that creating a new account is not allowed to bypass bans

Mark73 tying multi-accounts to just the IP address is not really possible. With VPNs, people browsing from work or school, multiple people in the same household or simply rotating IPs you will get so many false positives.

There are such multi-account hunter extensions on classic forum software that I can remember. Those used multiple other sources (like cookies) in combination with IPs to track. While they do a much better job they are morally and legally questionable.
