Can't install Flarum - MySQL issue?

All my install issues start with: Something went wrong: SQLSTATE[HY000]...

Trying to install Flarum with the preinstalled setup for Apache and PHP. I'm on macOS Catalina and downloaded and installed the latest MySQL 8.0.26. Install is straightforward with no settings needed or offered to me.

With Flarum install, what settings should I be using for MySQL fields? "localhost" was there by default. I've tried my username, root, login password, combinations to no avail. Assume I'm using existing ones? Which ones to use?

Looked into and tried setting mySock, new hostname, etc.

Do I need to simply setup MySQL via a different means? Appreciate any guidance or help with getting Flarum installed.

SmashAdam can you share one of the error messages in full?

If you see an SQLSTATE error I think this means Flarum can at least connect to the database, so the hostname/port must be correct.

The database you provide to Flarum should already exist before installation. You can create the database (and database user if necessary) with an external tool like MySQL Workbench or phpMyAdmin.

clarkwinkelmann -- Thanks. I'll post the full messages specific to each attempt. I was feeling a bit exasperated with the effort this morning. :-\

And I wasn't sure if it was going to set the db up for me, seemed like it as it was asking for the table prefix, but I'll stub out the initial db in MySQL. Fingers crossed.

MySQL sometimes is configured to use a socket, if that's the case try 127.0.0.1 as database host instead of localhost.

luceos -- Thanks, I did try that and it didn't work.

SmashAdam Flarum will create the tables, but not the database. The prefix is for the tables. You can usually leave that field empty unless you plan to have multiple applications installed into a single database, which I don't recommend.

@clarkwinkelmann @luceos -- This is a bit late...thank you both again for your assistance. It was a MySQL set up issue on my part. Got it squared away with Flarum now running properly locally.
