Related Discussions - Extension now ready

Hey is there anyone who can make Related Discussions Extention

huuduy216 is willing to pay $100 and i can pay $30 (Paypal)

I'm thinking YARPP as a base/inspiration for the "Related Discussions Extention" they were building YARPP for the last 10years I guess. They do have good enough experience and they have built a great related post algorithm (as per my view) since most of the flarumates are devs it would be great if you guys go through it and share some thoughts

Features

Extention should be independent self-hosted should not rely on APIs
it should be free for everyone
it should show 15 related discussions
at the admin panel we should be able to define the number of related discussions that need to be shown
there should be an option to show how many discussions need to be shown under the first post. Default is 5
if discussion has only 1 post it should not display a related post under the first post since footer related discussions are already exist
for posts under first post it should display the first 5 discussions from the footer area like quora does

it should have an option to set 5 custom related discussions at the front end like Wordpress CPTR plugin

if we add 3 custom related discussions it should remove the 3 number of related discussions from total 15 discussions and should show our 3 manually mentioned discussions on top

be open to suggest different algorithms

The related post algorithm should be robust like YARPP (please)

Can you elaborate this? I don't really understand this. Why do want to use another extension to show related post for this specific case?

huuduy216 there will be only one extension but it would display same content at two different places one is "5 discussions under the first post" and "15 discussions under the last post"

So whenever the user comes without scrolling he would find 5 related discussions that will increase the relevancy and spider will like it.

If we wanted to add automatic "relevance", we would need to choose an algorithm, and I have never implemented that kind of thing before. Since the Flarum search is already slow, I would imagine an automated query for related discussions would also have poor performance, unless we put it inside of a CRON job or async job.

Justoverclock did you watch the linked video? I'm okay with your approach but I just want you to consider watching it they did some calculation and gave scoring. And they are ready to give access to their GitHub project too. (Just mentioning)

One relatively simple approach could be just running a search for the title / keywords of the current discussion, and displaying results in the linked posts field. It would be a good start, and the only complex logic would be the keyword extracter. Although even then, if you just used the title, you'd be good.

KInd of a cheat way to do this with getting around search trying to figure it out. Maybe have "hidden tags" you can add to posts and it uses those to group similar posts together... Wouldn't be as automatic but might be simple and less resource intensive on small flarums?

MikeJones @clarkwinkelmann is working on something like that, I think for his webshop extension. Metatags. There is early version for some of older versions of Flarum.

I am interested to fund it for Blogs extension

MikeJones problem is, that requires manual categorization. It wouldn't scale to large forums.

That being said, it using flarum blog, my article series extension might be useful.
