So I have a similar problem

1) When I type it in and press return, it gives me a textual link as before. I have to reload the page to force it to create the link box
2) It then just sits and whirls and doesnt stop and doesnt create the link. This here was the link i was trying to create from

It appears I am stuck in 0.1.4. I have removed, cleared the cache and it still gives me 0.1.4.

Any ideas on how to get this to a higher number?

@clarkwinkelmann sorry to pull you into an extension that is not your own, but are you able to determine why we are all loading an old extension and how to load the newer version? Thank you

Jbugy run composer why-not datlechin/flarum-link-preview 1.4.0 and/or composer require datlechin/flarum-link-preview:1.4.0 --dry-run and copy the output here. It should give us more hints.

Looking at the data on Packagist, I see you need PHP 7.4 or greater and the PHP intl extension for the latest version. Version 0.1.4 is the latest that doesn't use the spekulatius/phpscraper dependency and therefore doesn't require the PHP intl extension, making this the most likely cause.

Thanks, the key was I was still missing Intl. I had ticked the box but forgot about the php/multiphp cPanel rubbish.

Uninstalled it, made sure I had it installed correctly and then it magically installed just fine. Thank you and apologies for calling on your expertise! Now I need to to tackle the cimise upload problem!!

@Boss81 can confirm this is the fix. You need to make sure the correct extension is enabled in you php

Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me. The referred meta-grabber Heroku app is missing.
GET https://meta-grabber.herokuapp.com/?url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-68530890 net::ERR_FAILED 404 (Not Found)

sas_sam It seems you are using the old version of Link Preview. Please update the extension to the latest version v1.4.0.

datlechin I use the Extension manager, and if I enter the package name (datlechin/flarum-link-preview) there, then it installs the v0.1.4 automatically. 😕

After installing it with a specific version number (datlechin/flarum-link-preview:1.4.0), it's working fine now. Thanks! Probably worth looking into the extension manager issue as well... why is it picking up that old version?

The link preview loading indicator just spins and spins and never gets replaced with the link preview. Am I doing something wrong? How do I get it to work?

stevevagabond You have the same issue that I had. Check my post before yours and that will solve it,

@datlechin it looks like I'm not the only one with this issue. I mean, if someone installs it without the specific version number, the installer picks the v0.1.4.

I get the same issue, even after updating it. I updated to 1.4 today and the issue persists.
i tried to remove it, clearing the cache and reinstalling it. Still the same issue.

So, i debugged it a litte bit. I get a response from "/api/datlechin-link-preview", everything seems to be correct. But he dosn't redraw the content.
