move flarum to a new host?

what should I do for a smooth pass to another host? I have read some posts but they might be out dated?

AnimaVillis when I moved my Flarum from A2 to Siteground, I had to also edit config.php and enter the new database name since on Siteground it doesn't seem possible to create databases with custom names, they are created with some new generated name (or maybe I am missing something stupid on how to rename the DB to a name chosen by me).

Going over your config.php after a migration is always wise. Sometimes you've also changed the URL that Flarum is visited with. You should copy over all files except vendor, that directory should be reinstated after having moved all files by running composer install --prefer-dist --no-dev -a.

luceos is this vendor thing important? I moved my forum months ago and never did that but I’ve upgraded the forum to 1.1 and 1.2 and maybe the upgrade already overrides and recreates everything? Maybe just in case I should delete the folder and reinstate it?

luceos actually I just changed the domain name. I will copy files to new domain folder and edit config.php for changing new domain name and run the script. I think I don't need to restore db because old and new domain is in the same server.

If you want to move to a new host with your flarum, to me i would've just copied my composer.json and config.php only from my files and MySQL database. ✅

I would then upload the My database and download new flarum files, composer using create-project flarum/flarum and detele the new composer.json , and move the old one + config file.

Then punch in composer update --prefer-dist --no-plugins --no-dev -a --with-all-dependencies to get all the extensions i was using to be installed.

luceos if move all files to new domain folder except vendor, I dont need to install all extensions again I understand, am I right?

murdocklawless that's correct, extensions will be preserved.

Basically everything found in vendor is defined in composer.json and composer.lock. So as long as you have composer.json and composer.lock, Composer can re-create vendor like it was. But importantly, it will install the correct version of extensions/libraries in case the PHP version changes.
