JohnP It really depends on the demographics of your community. I rarely use Flarum on a mobile device because I'm behind a laptop with a big screen most of the time. But my users are predominantly using a phone to access my community.
For them an app would make sense. It increases visibility (icon on the home screen instead of a tab in MobileSafari) and, more importantly, it would allow for notifications/badges to indicate activity. People are used to 'push' instead of needing to check a community for new relevant activity. That's a big reason why Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, etc are so popular and why a lot of forum activity has moved to those platforms.
I also notice that I'm using Discord more than I would like when there are both Discord and Flarum to communicate with a group. Notifications are one of the biggest factors in that.
In my opinion a 'native app' should be an app in the Apple and Google app stores with a simple webview, proper notifications and persistent login. That's all the app needs to do. Creating an interface with native UI elements would be great, but that would make most extensions useless without 'Mythril Native'.
