Why, though? You claim that attachments are a feature used by every board, but that is simply not true.
I've been developing FluxBB for the last few years, and we've been doing pretty fine without attachments in core.

Our philosophy for Flarum: provide only the absolutely essential features in core, and offer the rest (such as extensions) via extensions. That way, you can build your custom forum, exactly with all the features that you deem necessary, but nothing more.

Because for many users Attachments are essential and it's very uncomfortable to install many plugins.

And it's difficult to keep many plugins up to date.

A "like system" is a very popular feature among conversation boards, so yes I would see this as being something that is necessary, may not be necessary for everyone, but it is necessary for a lot of conversations.

Attachments as part of the core? Ehhh, not so much.
Attachments as an extension? Definitely.

Coming from experience with both phpBB and MyBB, I've honestly found attachments nothing more than a really awkward and annoying feature. That is personal preference though, I'm sure some people can find some great use for it.

Digital Thanks for the reply! I didn't notice that on the features page. I am generally content with waiting, but I wasn't expecting it to be apart of the core, since Berlyn said as much. Change or direction on that or is it just an extension still?

Lack of extensions for this is keeping me from even testing out Flarum. Does anyone know if an extension I might be missing? I would use it primarily for Word docs, markdown files, etc.

Right now there is no working extension for it. All we can do is to wait for someone to create an extension or wait for the core update.

Extension or not, users need to be able to insert a picture with the click of a button. How else can we compete with social media.

I'm not a big fan of having a ton of buttons in my interface. That's why the extentions i find the extension system great.

knat It is not planned to be part of core. It is best suited as an extension.
Be very patient and someone will surely create one.

HavocK It's a step in the right direction but the user would still have to upload the picture some where else and grab the link.

I think it is essential that the user can just click a button and select a picture to be uploaded and inserted right away.

meetdilip I will answer that with @Franz 's very own words.

Franz As discussed in many other topics (which you are free to discuss in), it's not a feature every forum will need, or want (as you need storage space etc.), so it will not be built into core.

But there will be an extension for sure; we'll have to see whether it needs to be official (probably) or not.
