technoob maybe you should try one of the methods described on our recent community post. Either you could start by setting up a Forum at FreeFlarum - or you could choose one of the mentioned hosts that offer SSH support.
If you want to install Flarum on your local Machine (Mac), as you mentioned, you will need to run a webserver first. The guide you linked suggests you are already running a webserver with cPanel installed. You could use MAMP - or you can install a virtual machine with a linux distribution. My suggestion though is to follow my previously mentioned route, if you have never installed a web application on your local machine yet.
