Forum.css being removed on custom css update

Hi, all,

I am using Flarum 1.2.1 on my test box and when I update the custom styles in admin, the forum.css file is deleted from the assets folder, any ideas why it would do that?

Everything else is working, currently running here: http://217.61.23.55/

ClickAlgo when you find it missing, try to visit your site, like normal user, and then go back to recheck the forum.css in your dir, you will find it has created a new file / an updated one.

Flarum compiles the final css based on several things:

custom less (styling in admin)
theme setting (dark mode, primary and secondary color)
extensions enabled

For this reason whenever any of these change Flarum will delete the generated (compiled) css (and JS). Then, whenver someone visits your community, it will automatically regenerate these on demand.

The css and js files were deleted, but when I force a page refresh on the site no new files are created.

Do you have any ideas why this would happen?

I am currently using a VPS with just an IP address, no domain name or SSL?

ClickAlgo Have you given the correct permissions to the folder where Flarum is located?

You could be right, I am sure the folder does not have write permissions, will run the command and retest.

update
I ran the command below, but still no luck, Flarum is located under the HTML directory

sudo chown www-data:www-data -R /var/www/

Fix
In order for it to work again, I ran the command above to give the www folder write permissions, copied the CSS and JS files back into the assets folder, go to admin, make the changes and save, the new CSS file was updated.
