Monthly newsletter extension?

Is there an extension where we can get an email list from all our users easily? I would love to see if I can set up a monthly newsletter based on the users registered on my site. Bonus points if the extension makes it easy fro them to unsubscribe from the newsletter as well.

MikeJones This is a great idea. I’m sure it has been requested before. Seems like a pretty standard type of extension.

I don’t know how to make. But, one idea in case this helps to push someone else to make it is: maybe it doesn’t have to do the emailing. Maybe it just collects names and emails in a list in the admin. Then, let’s you easily export the list of emails so you can paste them into Gmail for example.

luceos That looks interesting. I will look into it. It does have a monthly cost to use elastic email though.

As a super basic idea... It would be cool if I could just hit a button and it aggregates all the emails for registered users on my list. And then I could send out an email from gmail to them.

Which I could do just looking into my mysql database... but it would be cool if there was some logic or link the extension could give that would make it easy for users to unsubscribe. Then next time I wanted to send an email out to everyone, it would not give me their email addresses when I went to send.

That's a cool idea as well, but not what I am looking for personally. Since my site is more of a blog, with not a lot of activity, I would just want to send one once a quarter with some updates to my users.

Another thought. I know it is nice to have it built into Flarum. But, you could just have a link to a MailChimp sign up page. As one example. I know it means any existing users aren't signed up. But, technically you aren't supposed to do that. They need to sign up for it.

With free MailChimp you can send 10,000 emails a month and you get a form/landing page.

It would be a dream for it to be built into Flarum though even if it is a simple list with no actual emailing. Because, then maybe the extension could do something like: When an existing user logs back in, it prompts them to sign up for the newsletter.

Perhaps we aren't calling this the right thing... Really all we need is a custom form data collecting extension.

I developed this in the past https://discuss.flarum.org/d/23079-silent-mailchimp

It's no longer compatible with the latest Flarum version, and you would still need to import your existing user list into Mailchimp first since this only takes care of adding new users.

This approach probably isn't very suited for newsletter though, because users generally need to opt in manually first and not be added automatically.

But basically the same approach could be implemented for any external CRM/newsletter system. It just listens for new users and posts the email to an external API.
