Seems some changes were made to the config.php. You can delete the file to restart installation. You can also run the installer from the command line using php flarum install.

either hit http://an-island.cc/forum/public/ or use php flarum install from the installation directory

SHANKS You can use an FTP program to edit the files on your webserver once Flarum is installed.

However it seems like you have installed Flarum correctly.

As lucesos has mentioned above, by default the Flarum software installs the program on the following URL:

www.yourwebsiteurl.com/forum/public/

and not on:

www.yourwebsiteurl.com/forum/

This is why you can not see your forum on www.yourwebsiteurl.com/forum/

If you want to change your directory so that when members visit your website they go to:

www.yourwebsiteurl.com/forum/

Agreed, it's a bit like ice-skating up a hill for new owner of the program. However it's easy to use for all your visitors. I was in your position, but I spent 20mins a day learning about the installation process and I learned everything within a few weeks. I broke the installation process down into smaller manageable learning topics.

It's about weighing the advantages and disadvantages of the program. The big advantage of this program is that it's the most user-friendly program out there. This means it will be easier for you to grow your community.

There are many SSH clients. I use termius because it's user-friendly and free (no sign up required).

Once you learn the above, when you want to install the program & add-ons, you just copy and paste one line of code in an SSH client. It's not really too complicated. I was in the same position as you a month ago and I manage to learn it from scratch.

Yes, this is possible with this program but you will need to add extensions to the program.

Looks like you have a blog layout in the front of your home page and a forum. So you will need to ask the program support section or use the search if they know of any extensions that have the ability to add a blog feature on your homepage.

Flarum has a small but talented team of developers and contributors. So they need to prioritise ‘security updates’ and decide ‘realistically’ what they can build on their free time. Many flarum developers either have jobs and other personal responsibilities. They work on flarum in their spare time.

Flarum is packed full of modern day, community building features. For my needs, I am happy with everything they offer. I am not scared of unsupported extensions because most of them are under open source licence and I can easily find a developer on fiver.com to update them - if required.

If you have a lot of money then others do not have money.

If they did too many things at once, the program will suffer on quality and they will not be able to release improvements quickly. So they do a few things and do them really well and others help build extensions which helps everyone.

We follow the DORC principle outlined here: https://docs.flarum.org/internal/bundled-extensions-policy. We haven't done nearly enough to clarify our goal of keeping Flarum as slim and lean as possible, but one of the underlying reasons is the ability to install Flarum without bloat on a shared environment. Adding any and all features, and there have been many, would make installation impossible for a lot of users.

As such we make Flarum as extensible as possible, in fact that's our main driver. This is also the reason there are 576 compatible extensions for Flarum v1.3 (see https://extiverse.com/). Given that some of those are forks, provide little to no features, there's still over 200 that actually require a lot of time to develop, maintain and support.

We would need a very large team of developers to support all the features the majority requested. We simply do not have the manpower for that, being an open source project.
