Mentioning groups within posts

Previously discussed (at least once here), I'd like to introduce the ability to mention groups.

Based on the discussion started by @Darkle about mentioning tags, Darkle , I would like to introduce an extension that allows mentioning groups. I don't think this should be a core feature nor should it be hidden behind a feature flag. Perhaps this can be a 1st party extension though.

What are we hoping the outcome will be:

A new version of flarum/mentions that contains the feature group mentioning.

The requirements:

new permission "Search groups" underneath "Search users"
api search endpoint for groups that adheres to permission checking, only allow groups that are not hidden
search source in the forum frontend for integration into mentions that checks for the permission before the source is added
notify group members on mention using the NotificationSyncer
create new notification (similar to "you were mentioned") for "a group you belong to was mentioned"
add group mentioning formatting in frontend and backend, the design should be similar to a tag with icon, background and plural name.

luceos Maybe for tags, it could be a separate extension, but for groups, don't you think it could be part of flarum/mentions as optional in the admin panel?

In agreement with @SychO we think luceos is now sufficiently specced out. This task is now up for grasp and can be pledged to.

I have enabled the ability to place a bounty and pledged $ 25 just now (with the 25% reduced this leaves $ 19). Oh look a shiny badge, I wish I could mention that group now 🙈

Kylo it's still in a very early stage (feedback from the team already came in about the ugly rendering on mobile for instance), but I do think we can help extension developers and core developers feel engaged, empowered and appreciated for their time. I also hope that the community will see opportunity to direct Flarum and the extension ecosystem to their needs.

Not too long ago we decided to archive the old issues list on the Flarum repository, to allow the core team to focus more on the needs of our users now. To be flexible to respond to what is happening in the world. These bounties are yet another method to work closer with the community in shaping the awesome product that is Flarum.

Oh I'm really excited about this idea, especially now that you've moved feature requests from GitHub to here, we'll be able to see them all and push some of those features that are really wanted by the community, maybe even influence the future of Flarum who knows...

I also hope that developers will even be encouraged to post some of their crazy ideas for extensions that they don't know if they would generate interest or not in the proposal tag, I think it will be a good way to draw conclusions.

IanM that is really awesome progress! I really appreciate that you have picked up this bounty - especially while the money pledged does not reflect the effort that seemed to have been necessary to implement this! Really hoping we can make this happen for the Mentioning Tags feature as well 🙂
