I will have to develop a guided tour extension, and before I start I wanted to ask around what you guys think or know:

Would it make sense to use something like shepherdjs.dev on a Flarum community?
Has anyone done that yet?
Does anyone have experience with shepherd.js (good or bad)?
Any advised alternatives?

Great! Thanks for sharing, but I think I'll stick to Shepherd, as it seems to be more liked by the open source community: https://npmtrends.com/driver.js-vs-shepherd.js and from reading the docs, I feel like it also offers more features.

iPurpl3x yes i think that too, this was a first attempt, unfortunately due to lack of time i cannot finish this extension, my idea was to have a settings page that allows admin to choose wich element should be highlighted and the text to show

lichengkun135 I will most certainly not release any extension soon. This will be a custom development for a client, and my code will most certainly not be generic enough to be release as an extension.
