I am having some issues installing Flarum. I followed through all the steps and installed in public_html then moved all files/folders one level up. Transferred all the content from public folder into public_html. Also, changed the appropriate settings in site.php and index.php. Now I am having this issue,

The /myhomedirectory/public_html/assets directory doesn't exist
This directory is necessary for the installation. Please create the folder.

That assets folder is there from the installation script. I tried renaming that and/or creating another new one, but still no luck in solving this issue. I checked all the permission of 775 and/or chown to the relevant directories as suggested in the installation.

I am wondering what could be the issue now? Is it a permission issue? Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

The issue

Post some information here like what you expected to see, but got instead. If you can find any logs in /storage/logs or in your browser console that relate to the issue, add them.

If we are talking about Flarum those files do not include configuration parameters. The only relevant files are the config.php and the composer.json. I assume you have a host where you cannot install directly with composer? Composer installation is (for now) the only official way to install Flarum. If you want to install it locally and then upload it to your server, you must use the same PHP version.

If you have installed using composer, but it's not in the correct directory, the easiest way would be to point your web server to the public directory, as this is what you want anyhow, rather than moving files.

Can you provide more info? like the webserver used, OS, if you're in a shared host environment?

Thank you all for your wonderful support. It was both tough and easy. Had to work on a couple of times, including changes those permission, symlinks, files changes in site.php, etc. I followed through this link, https://discuss.flarum.org/d/23166-how-can-i-install-flarum-in-root-directory/6

Finally, I got it installed, and I am really enjoying. Still working on changing the appearance and logo thing. Will share once all things in motion.
