3 - open the table users
4 - click in structure
5 - in "is_activated" click in Change
6 - in Default switch to 1

    This would only work for 1 user and still doesn't disable the email. ReFlar's upcoming extension will allow you to do his without modifying the database manually.

        He's proposing to change the "structure" aka the default value for is_activated, so yes this will make all new users activated per default (not the existing ones though).

        webeindustry looking at the code, it will work. Good job OP. Our extension will allow for the ability to completely disable the email input on sign up.
