Title. Willing to contribute $25 (LTC only) towards development of passkey extension. If anyone's interested to either contribute more or develop an extension, please do reply.
As for the actual internals necessary I have zero clue how it works and the technical expertise required.
But to motivate people to show interest in passkeys, here are some benefits of it:
- Almost complete elimination of password breaches
- No risk of reuse
- Resistant to phising attacks
- Secrets are stored client side encrypted which provides really strong security
- Insane ease of use of passkeys. One click logins.
- Already supported by Google and Apple as they're part of FIDO alliance and hence, are trying their best to bring native support and we can see widespread adoption of it moving forward.
- Our competitor (or friend) discourse already supports passkeys to my knowledge.
Requirements:
- MIT (or similar copyleftish) license if creating new extension
- Ability to set force passkey login or as an optional login method.
- Bypass 2fa when using passkey (so should possibly support the 2fa extensions also and be compatible)
- Add multiple passkeys for each device and the ability to set a max number of passkeys per account.
