If you only hide the posts, then this is the expected behavior.

Your extension would need additional logic to automatically mark the last invisible post as read - if this really the behavior you desire.

Flarum read status is all based around post numbers. A discussion is shown as unread if the largest post number in the discussion has not been read by the logged in user. This can cause some trouble when you make some posts invisible, or if you allow post numbers to be re-used after the original post has been deleted. This is a very efficient implementation, but it doesn't work as well when everyone sees a different content. In that case maybe your custom extension should also re-implement what it means to have a discussion marked as read. One option could be to store a discussion read timestamp instead of number, or store read status of individual posts if you want the ability to highlight unread posts after they become visible to the user again.
