Revive Achievements Extension(s)

I do propose to revive the achievement-extension (https://discuss.flarum.org/d/26675-flarum-achievements-reward-your-users-for-participating) as I think it is a nice feature that can in certain communities help activity. Ideally this would be on a stable basis that can be supported for a prolonged time (eg. FoF). The current extension has some unresolved issues - as well as an inactive maintainer.

Edit 2: This proposal aims to take all available abandoned extensions and build one Achievement / Badge extension. Either in conjunction with a maintained automation solution like AutoMod, or baked into the extension.

This might be a good case for a bounty.

GreXXL I'd be happy to get this revived and transferred to FoF.

I assume the proposal here is to update for Flarum 1.8.x, resolve the outstanding issues and publish?

Or are we talking targeting Flarum 2.0 for this?

Justoverclock we appreciate your effort to revive these extensions, but we also have to stay true to the requirements of aProposals with Pledge, as people expect a certain outcome for their money. The outcome for this bounty states

Maybe you could get in touch with @IanM (who has also voiced interest IanM ), if this is not something doable. FoF is always looking for new contributors. I think this is a more complex extension (even might have some requirements of other extensions) so having them work well together and all being maintained (also with upcoming 2.0) is something important. It's not a hard requirement though. It's a bounty about reviving this and maintaining it for a prolonged time - just with a strong preference that it happens in a collective like FoF.

I'm not sure how this differs from User Badges + Automod. Is there any difference?

Darkle not sure. But User Badges is also abandoned. AutoMod is still maintained but also only on a very basic level. Maybe there is something to be taken from both extensions and re-used in a better more feature complete version that is still supported? I agree the feature set is similar.

Basically what is needed is some configurable achievements as well as a method to automatically assign them. I think many other comparable community software solutions offer this.

Darkle I'm using that combination for the same purpose as well, but both extensions seem abandoned, and while I heavily rely on them it's keeping me from updating on recent Flarum versions. I still think that the Auto Moderator extension is far superior to any other combination there and would happily support its revival.

At their core, that combination is doing exactly what's described in OP

GreXXL Oh, I didn't know it was marked as abandoned. In fact, I'm using User Badges without any issue right now, but I agree that merging both extensions into one well-maintained, potentially FoF-supported extension would be a great idea. Honestly, I haven't used Achievements. User Badges is quite complex and has an option that allows you to use images, so you can move from classic badges to something more akin to achievements, but it would be good to thoroughly review everything to achieve feature parity.

hrvoje_hr Yes, I agree, Askvortsov idea with AutoMod to keep all that logic separate so it can be reused by more extensions is conceptually stronger, and I think it significantly reduces the maintenance burden on extensions like User Badges/Achievements.

Darkle userbadges is abondoned but it works atm with a few bugs. though there a few key features missing imo. i think there should be an option for "users can take this badge by themselves". so people can use badge system as if its an old school forum group system (mybb)

imo automoderator + badges would more useful if both were maintained because automoderator can be extended by other extensions, so there are a lot more possibilities.
