Extension Manager Stable Release & Install Flarum Via ZIP File

SychO Overcoming the reliance on SSH access for software and extension management has been a persistent challenge for many users. While the Extension Manager resolves these challenges for extensions, the initial software installation still necessitates command-line use.

I’m curious why not just include this in the zip file for those on shared hosting that don’t have access to ssh access especially since it seems like Composer is compiled with php on most hosting control panels now a days. Then it would make things easier.

dad72 I am unsure about your error. Maybe some restrictions on your php installation or memory being exhausted? Can you share your complete php flarum info output with us?

dad72 Also, I cannot enable background queue operations. The checkbox is not clickable. Am I missing something?

You will need to have something like https://discuss.flarum.org/d/28151-database-queue-the-simplest-queue-even-for-shared-hosting or Redis running to be able to activate this option - as described in the info text.

The next paragraph of the quoted text explains that this is just what we did:

SychO To address this further, we're introducing installation via packages bundled with the Extension Manager for each major Flarum version. This offers an alternative installation method for users uncomfortable with CLI commands. By selecting the appropriate PHP version package, users can directly install Flarum without using composer.

I have no restrictions from my PHP install. I'm on a Dedicated server.

I understand for the second part that I am missing an extension database-queue.

Ok. @GreXXL in fact I have this error because you must have installed the extension Database-queue.
If the extension is not installed and activated, Extension Manager does not work.

Perhaps should specify that the Database-queue extension is required.

dad72, no extension manager also works without the installed database queues. This is just an optional feature. Can you share how much memory you have allocated to your PHP process running Flarum? I suspect that it is too little to operate the extension manager properly.

In Check for updates >> There are 2 options to choose from

Soft update
Hard update

Can anyone explain the 2 options?

Litalino If you have an extension installed with a specific version like 2.5 or ².0
And the extension has two updates, a 2.8 and a 3.4

The soft update will update the extension to 2.8 (minor version update, within constraint)
The hard update will update the extension to 3.4 (latest version matching stability criteria)

We will see to include this in our documentation as well.

Updated and noticed package-manager was missing all settings so checked this post and see I have to remove package-manager to install extension manager which I have now done.

Sadly however I cannot enable Extension Manager - seems to generate a 500 error on POST to /api/extensions/flarum-extension-manager

I forgot about those logs! Managed to fix my own issue, by dropping ##_extension_manager_tasks I have a funny feeling I forgot to purge after disabling the extension when switching from package to extension manager.

For the sake of others that may do what I did:

dad72 Yes, that is what I meant, but that should be fine. As I understand, the issue is fixed for you after using the DB queue? If you run into a class error, you maybe also want to run composer install --prefer-dist --no-dev -a to verify all dependencies have been installed correctly.

Litalino seems as if you have expressly set the extension to a fixed version. You can visit the extension setting page and do a "Hard update" so it will update to the latest available version.
