Installing flarum via FTP (Updates and add-ons)

Hi, I noticed that it is possible to install Flarum simply via FTP after unpacking the package.
And there is no need to use SSH.
I want to ask how can I add add-ons to the forum (which is installed classically via FTP not via SSH).
And how to update these add-ons and maybe the forum itself when a new version comes out.
