Installing Flarum with Cloudpanel

Impossible for me to get over the composer create-project flarum/flarum step.

I feel like a complete idiot. Spent 4 hours trying everything, installed multiple times different OS on VPS, tried to use AIs to get some help and i was only able to understand how ssh access works.

So install the packet, i get flarum folder in the htdocs near the website folder and that's all a 404 message on my site.

It would be so helpful if there was some sort of step by step guide for web illiterates like me.

FlarumNOOB it would be helpful to see the contents of the htdocs directory and the url you are trying to open. Eg if you installed flarum in htdocs without providing a path to composer create-project, it will install flarum in the subdirectory flarum and you will need to append that to your url. There might and can be something else amiss, but that's easier to be identified based on more information.

Error 404 is basically as a result of url rewriting issue.
Which version of php are you using and which file archive did you download?

Check if you have .htaccess in your flarum folder.

Composer is easier to work with but I will try to install from archive and point the step by step direction to you.

Just did a test install in Cyberpanel, took me less than 20 minutes to get it done.
Follow the below steps -

Login to your Cyberpanel admin area
Add the website you are to use and select PHP 8.3 version
Navigate to Database => Create database and fill in your database name, username and password. Note the data
Go to the installation doc @ https://docs.flarum.org/install/ and download the first option ie, PHP 8.3 Non-public part. this file - flarum/installation-packagesraw/main/packages/v1.x/flarum-v1.x-no-public-dir-php8.3.zip
In your Cyberpanel go to list websites => the site => file manager => public_html
Delete the index.html that Cyberpanel automatically created
Upload the zip file in that directory and extract
Visit the site and fill in the earlier noted database details, your email address and your admin login details.

Your site should be running without any issues. Do the required settings in the admin panel and enjoy your new community.

Chope OK thanks so i do not have a public_html but htdocs. > sitename folder > index.html

eliminated index.html and uploaded the zip file inside and extracted flarum.

Have 403 error Forbidden nginx 😢

Thank you so much. I know is asking a little too much but do you know some good starting point (like courses or documentation) to get confortable with manipulating all of this and have an understanding of what i'm or doing or is it something you acquire by practice?

Strange, error 403 is permission related.
What php version is the domain set on and also which file did you download?

Still find it strange.
The only way you have 403 permission related is if you do not have index.php on your server root.

There are more reasons. Another reason could be that the site runs as another use as with which Flarum was installed, files being owned by someone else. It's hard to tell without looking at the files and permissions.

Ok i understood the problem and it was really really stupid (tipical noob/web illiterate thing)

For the next person having the same problem here the solution:

Login to your Cyberpanel admin area
Add the website you are to use and select PHP 8.3 version

Go to the installation doc @ https://docs.flarum.org/install/ and download the first option ie, PHP 8.3 Non-public part. this file -
flarum/installation-packages
raw/main/packages/v1.x/flarum-v1.x-no-public-dir-php8.3.zip
In your Cyberpanel go to list websites => your site name => file manager => htdocs
Delete the folder with your site name
Upload the zip file in that directory and extract
rename the extracted folder with the exact name of the folder you eliminated (www.yoursitename.com)
Visit the site and fill in the earlier noted database details, your email address and your admin login details.

The important thing is that the folder of you website directly contains all the files of the flarum folder, not the folder itself.
