Tracking user referrals (+rewarding active recruiters?)

I'm looking for a way to track and reward user referrals on my forum, but I'm having trouble finding the right extensions or discussions on this topic. I'd appreciate your help with the following:

Is there a way to track who refers new members when they sign up?
Can this be implemented without restricting the forum to invite-only?
Are there any extensions that provide personalized signup links for members?

My goal is to incentivize and reward active members who bring in new users to our community. I believe this could significantly boost our member acquisition and engagement.
Ideally, I'm looking for a solution that allows:

Generating unique referral links for each user
Tracking successful referrals
Implementing a reward system for top referrers

Has anyone implemented something similar or know of any extensions that could help? Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

There use to be an extension that did some of this, but it is no longer available.

You could use fof/doorman to set up codes that you share with users, but it would be a very manual process.

treyb If that is the only possible way currently - then that's the route I need to take.
Question: is it possible to use doorman and still have open signup?

Do you happen to know what this extension was called? Id like to look into if it had features that is sufficient for my use case, and perhaps add a (small 🥲) bounty for it to be revived.

FullThrottle83 yes, there is a check box to make the code optional.

I think we can create an proposal and add a bounty potentially to have the extension created.
