Would it be better to compress all images users upload, or require that images be less than a maximum size? Should I restrict users from uploading PNG files?
Is there any kind of extension or tool that could convert all files to next-gen WebP? I've been doing this on my business site lately and it is truly incredibly how you can save up to 90% on one image and have it still look good. I use squoosh.app, amazing little tool. I think it's owned by Google. Obviously everything I'm personally uploading to my forum is in WebP, but I know my users aren't going to do that (willingly), and I feel like requiring them to convert their images is just too much.
EDIT: I discovered the FoF Upload extension and have downloaded and installed it. Could someone suggest the highest recommended upload size? I want images to come through looking good, but I don't want them to be a space hog. Also, could someone please explain the automatic image resizing? I would really like to have this on. The default option is 100. Isn't that very low resolution? What would you guys recommend setting this to?
