Can't Start Private Discussion on my Forum

I have Byobu downloaded, but I can't start a private discussion from a non-admin account. I'm trying to get a workflow with my forum where businesses must be verified before soliciting, and to get verified, they have to PM me. I'm testing this now and I'm getting "You do not have permission to do that."

I appreciate any help. I tried Googling around for the issue, and saw some similar stuff, but it's over five years old, so I figured it wasn't relevant.

I had this exact same issue with the Byobu extension as well, though I'm not trying to manage a business via the forums, so I shelved it in favour of other things.

But it sounds as though this particular extension is something you do need, and urgently.
So I'll keep an eye out for any information that could help.

BrodyStone21 accounts that aren't email verified aren't considered members yet. They are like restricted accounts.
A better solution would be to create a group verified, then assign users to that group after you checked their dm. They will need to verify their email address first though.
Let me know if this makes sense.

User31 thank you! I'm not necessarily trying to run a business, but I am trying to verify businesses are real so they don't scam users. Here is a post I made (on my forum) explaining what I'm looking to do.

luceos this does make sense, but I had already verified the email of the user. I just tried again and it said the confirmation link has already been used.

EDIT: Can I verify an account has a verified email from the admin account? Like I said, I know I verified it, and there is no banner telling the user account to verify, but it's not working.

If you go to the user list or a user profile, then click edit, in the edit modal below the email address there will be a link to manually activate the user if they are not already verified. If you don't see the button, the user is already verified.

Quick update, I think @luceos might be right about the email not being verified. The strange thing, there is no banner asking to confirm the email, and I am 1,000% positive I verified the email address. I'm not sure how to proceed.

The account is unable to start ANY discussion, not just private ones.

clarkwinkelmann I checked the database tables and the user verified email address is set to 1, which I presume means they are verified.

I've also tried creating additional accounts and verifying the email address.

Users still can not create any type of discussion.

Do you recommend doing anything else? Getting this working properly is obviously essential.

EDIT: Also, I followed what you said just to see, and there is no manually activate user button. Meaning they are for sure activated.

On the main page, the discussion button says "Can't Start Discussion." If I navigate to a tag, I can click the "Start a Discussion Button," however, I can't actually post anything. The message "You do not have permission to do that," appears.

Okay, new update, I can create a post if I set secondary tag requirements to 0. I've realized child tags and parent tags are both considered primary tags.

How can I require users to use both 1 parent tag and 1 child tag?

Also, I can now PM users. If require secondary tags is set to anything greater than 0, it breaks.

Unfortunately, that's not possible natively and I don't know any extension that does this.

😄Took me three weeks to figure out that [Child Tags] & [Primary Tags] are both counted as as 'Primary Tags' by the setting for the required number of 'Primary Tags'.

Ie: To require users select 1 [Primary Tag] as well as 1 [Child Tag], set the number of 'Primary Tags' as [2] to [2]

EDIT: Please disregard the example description.
😂I was totally mistaken and that is actually not how the Tags work at all.

This is what I was going to do for the time being. I think I’m getting to request a new feature where we can limit number of parent tags.
