We have the following function integrated to the core, why have a separate extension for this?

If we have the following function for posts, we should have the following function for users.

...or we shouldn't have both in the core and have them as extensions.

What do you guys think?

I think an extension is a good idea. I doubt everyone would want the functionality and going down the extension route won't bloat the core.

Yes, this is crucial! Whenever you follow someone it generates activity to drive engagement. And when you see someone with a lot of followers it creates a sense of curiosity, "why is this person so popular?" Then, a natural follow-on feature is "popular" or "trending" users. The counter-argument would be that perhaps Flarum is only focused on discussions and not people, and that this feature is very complex...

As far as following a user, what sort of things would you want to follow when it comes to them? Posts they made, discussions they started, etc?

Ralkage Discussions a user started would be the first priority. Then comes the threads they replied.
Infact a new page where we could see just the discussions from the users we follow and tags we follow. That would be best since most social medias are like that now a days.

Follow Tags was already built, but installation on discuss is pending the Queue functionality to process sending of large amounts of mail out of the current (php) process.

Follow Users shouldn't be any harder I assume 😉 But, sadly, does not exist yet.
