Can you share the exact error message?
If the page is broken by a PHP warning, you should set display_errors
to Off
in your php.ini
Any other error should probably be reported to the developers so they can fix the extension.
What happens to your search results if you disable the extension depends on your settings and what other extensions you have enabled and whether they augment the rich metadata in the search in any way. For a "vanilla" forum it probably wouldn't have much impact if the content has already been indexed. In fact if your site throws 500 errors it's probably much worse SEO impact than not optimizing SEO at all.
