How install flarum v1.8.9 in 2025

Thank you for creating an open-source project like Flarum. It's excellent and its philosophy is contagious.

After being encouraged to use Flarum, I've encountered a couple of difficulties and doubts while installing Flarum.

Specifically, version 1.8.9, which I understand is the latest version before V2 which is in beta.

I've been researching and couldn't find a guide. Only this link where version 1.8.0 is installed to 1.8.1:

I installed version 1.8.1 and the SSL terminal sent me a message indicating that the mail system needs to be updated.

For this reason, I thought that perhaps by using version 1.8.9 this problem would already be fixed.

But I've found that I can't install version 1.8.9 from Composer, at least not as far as I've tried.

NOTE: in the Git repository, there seem to be 2 different branches of Flarum:

where version 1.8.9 appears

and tags where the latest version appears as 1.8.1

So here I don't know which is the main and modern branch to start my community.

You can safely ignore the message. It's meant to inform us maintainers, not the end user.

Composer create project indeed installs 1.8.1, which is the skeleton. To keep it simple, our actual version is defined by the Flarum/core package, but yeah we need to add these last patch releases to flarum/flarum too.

Anyway. Install with composer and check in your admin area after installation.
