Two very simple extensions that replace static links to images or videos into actual images and playable videos using the native HTML5 video player. You can install either of them via Composer as described below.

composer require s9e/flarum-ext-autoimage:*
composer require s9e/flarum-ext-autovideo:*

Not to be confused with s9e/flarum-ext-mediaembed which does something else entirely.

.gifv isn't an actual file format so I can't just throw that into a video player. It wouldn't be technically difficult to automatically replace the .gifv extension with .mp4 to make it work but I don't think I want to add site-specific pseudo-formats into the extension. On top of that, Imgur has a history of changing their stuff every now and then and be a pain to maintain. So for now if you want to post a GIFV from Imgur, replace .gifv with .mp4 and it should embed automatically.

Might be worth mentioning that this isn't a lighter replacement for your autoembed mod, but only handles direct image (jpg/png/gif) or video (mp4, ogg, w4m) links. Your readmes on github do, it might just be worth repeating here.

Great extension, I'm glad to see this kind of functionality.

Am I misunderstanding this extension, or is the parser not getting this link correct?

I added the autoimage, cleared cache, and tried it again for a jpeg:

Hmm, it appears the parser breaks for the first link. Could you check to see if it will handle dashes, colons, and underscores?

Another question, is it easily doable to set the html5 video size to match the post space, so as not to encounter scrolling?

The Autoimage/Autovideo plugins don't currently accept colons. I was very conservative when I wrote those plugins but I've thought about it and I'm going to add support for :, +, URL-encoded characters and parentheses pairs such as the (1) that Windows adds to a file when you save it with the same name.

I thought about limiting the size of images and videos but ultimately I think this should be handled by the site's style. Adding video { max-width: 100%; } to your custom CSS should do the trick.

Everyone here, including myself, appreciate what you guys doing. We love this project. That's why everyone is patiently waiting for 3 years. But the end results are very disappointing. Sorry, bro, but facts.

This is such a well designed and unique web application, and the plugins are good too, but s9e-mediaembed (the main embedding feature) is not going to be reliable in the near future.

Could this please be updated for beta 7? Tried installing on a clean beta 7 install but got error cannot find any version for minimum-stability (beta). CheerS ?.

It's working for me on beta 7. Try edit the post, press enter, and then save. It should work.

It seems that that forces the code to be re-parsed by the s9e text-formatter.

If you have a big forum, you might need to write a script to do this en-masse for you.
