I know I haven't commented yet @luceos, but this is going to be an amazing extension and hopefully comes out of the box with Flarum. Private discussions are a necessity for any forum!

I'm very happy how this extension is coming together, again I've learned quite a deal about Flarum internals again even though I'm still running into a few issues before this can go into a beta version.

Dominion haha, so you'd need someone without access to tell you what others within the private discussions are writing? Very efficient ?

@luceos a suggestion if I may...

Add some way to start a PM (or byobu) by clicking on a member within the context of a post. Maybe a link/icon on their profile modal that comes up when you mouse over their avatar?

Many times users will be reading a thread and want to send someone a note right there. By clicking on "Private message" or an icon, the intended user would be pre-populated in recipients. That would be sweet and also help with usability.

JRay that's a perfectly sensible request and something I've forgotten about while working on the extension. With a release imminent I should be able to hack this in as well ?

I'll probably move private discussions on a group level to a future version.

It always runs dev-master for everything.
It also auto-updates at changing frequency (depending on how often there are updates) and it has been autonomous for over a year now ?
Ensuring the extension is up to date can be verified.

A big issue I'm trying to solve is the Event Post (<user> added/removed recipient X and Y) loses the X and Y information after a refresh. These users are not bound into the app.

It's very much still a work in progress. Some stuff to do:

Fix showing user tags on private discussions in the discussion list immediately, instead of only after a refresh.
Drop requirement of Tag or add a default tag, perhaps that's possible for now.
Check what the flagging extension does with this.
Verify permission works when someone should not be able to see a discussion.
Remove already selected users from the dropdown.

You could make it to auto select a tag, maybe the Private tag auto generated by the extension.

staion I was gonna say the same. A 'Private' tag might work if you have to have one.

You'd want something that either the user can define, or so unique no one would have the same name already in their existing list of tags. Private might work on some boards, but it might be best if it's userdefined. Or tagless.

jordanjay29 that is way I said Private Messages are not the same as Private Discussions in our case, because a PM in not related with a discussion in any way. A PM system is separated from the normal content of a website/forum...

I've created a first beta version, see the extension thread for new version announcements. I'll keep this thread as well to focus more on the development aspect of it.

Note if you installed dev-master
Make sure to delete the recipients table and under migrations any entry that belongs to flagrow/messaging or flagrow/byobu, then make sure to run php flarum migrate.

Seems I forgot about two important things, so I've soft deleted the thread for now:

Private discussions are only visible if you type is:private in search, whereas it makes more sense to have them shown in the normal listing per default.
Anyone typing the URL directly who should have no access can still see the thread and its posts, I still have to hook into that logic and block it.
