This particular forum (of mine) has experienced some hiccups over the past 5 years and so only 11% of my traffic is from returning users.

The other thing to consider is that "new users" might be more likely to click ads whereas regular members might be more "blind" to the banners. So there's still a very good chance that a forum could make more money from showing ads to guests than to regular members.

Of course, none of this theory matters. The only way to know is to test.

I am getting often js errors that the "ins" could not be loaded. I dont understand this and habe no idea Do you have the same problem?

Add a class to the ins and then simply hide it on mobile.

Any way we can get the ad space to collapse if no ad is loaded. Not sure if its a bug with the extension or if its just a google Adsense thing but ads don't always load in the containers for me.

In the ads that show up in between posts, this looks especially ugly because there is a huge gap in the discussion flow. It would be nice if it could detect that no ad was there after the page loaded and then collapse the div?

in the Ad position in the left column under tags on frontpage code, add a new class to the ins tag from Google's ad

<ins class="adsbygoogle ads_side"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-..."
     data-ad-slot="..."
     data-ad-format="auto"></ins>

then hide the ins when required:

<style>
@media (max-width: 767px) { .ads_side { display: none !important; } }
</style>

This is the only version supported by Google.

JAC the extension just inserts the HTML you give to it.

Responsiveness must be handled by yourself, or ideally the ad service you use should ship with responsive styling out of the box.

JAC if you use AdSense there are responsive ad units
