Greetings my fellow Flarumites!
March is upon us, and with it comes another community update. Februrary brought along some hard work and progress towards important steps, so let's talk about that.
DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
In our February Community Update, I mentioned that our core devs were hard at work on a final API for Flarum 0.1.0, which will be our first stable version. This is important because it serves as a development roadmap with clear goals to work towards and a picture of how Flarum will look once stable. I'm pleased to inform you that a final draft has been made and is being tweaked by our devs at the moment. I imagine a release of this API document is imminent.
A few tidbits from the upcoming API that I want to share with you, to pique your interest.
- Adopting TypeScript to bring our Javascript source up to the same caliber as PHP
- A cleaner, simpler look for the discussion list
- Revamped admin interface with a focus on managing extensions
- Updated application architecture to make things more organised and lay the foundation for Laravel integration
- More powerful notifications and push system
- Improved searching
- All-new extension API to make extending Flarum easier and more powerful
More information will become available as the API is finalized, but I wanted to get you started to understand what you can look forward to. Our roadmap on Github and on the website will need to be updated, so you can largely disregard them for now. I can't wait to share the rest with you, but for now we have to move on.
STAFF UPDATES
We welcomed the addition of @Arkinn to our staff this month as a documentation writer. He's already started powering through what we have now, updating it and bringing it up to new standards. You should be seeing it up on the website soon, and you can follow the progress (and bring up issues or make PRs as normal) at the flarum/docs repo.
Our moderator team shrunk a little this month as #webeindustry stepped down from his moderator position for personal reasons. Thanks for your service and best of luck to you.
We know things have been slow, and it might continue this way for a while yet (as Toby has an intense rotation for the next couple months) but rest assured things are happening now that the API is being finalized. Development should pick up regardless and we're optimistic about the future!
COMMUNITY SHOUT-OUT
Oftentimes I highlight extensions here, but I wanted to showcase something a little different. Our community contributes a lot of useful things, and don't be shy to explore around a little. Some things this month from our Resources tag.
