Moving flarum install between servers

I have done exactly that, however i just moved the install location on the same server. So, i did not edit the config as it was the same. However, now i get a non-styled "Something went wrong while trying to load the full version of this site." On my site. How could i fix it? I do have a backup.

neoneosa Your config also holds the URL for Flarum. It will not work unless the location Flarum is accessed and the URL stored in config.php match.

Hi,

I need to use this method to restore a Flarum install properly soon.
According replies, i resumed the process like this:

Backup following elements

Database
- PhpMyAdmin
- mysqldump -u mysql_user -p DATABASE_NAME > backup.sql
composer.json,
composer.lock
config.php files,
extend.php for those who added any customizations,
assets directory.

Restore

Install a bare flarum as per the instructions here without configuring it.
Copy over your composer.json and composer.lock files.
Run composer install --prefer-dist --no-dev
Copy over your config.php file.
Restore your database:
a. PhpMyAdmin
b. mysql -u mysql_user -p DATABASE < backup.sql
Copy over your flarum-root/assets folder.

The only important change since beta 7 I think is that assets is now inside of public, but the steps should still be the same.

If you have any customization in extend.php, you'll need to copy this file as well.

Hi guys, I have asked the owner of FlarumPro to give me the database, composer.json, composer.lock, config.php so I can move my existing Flarum (hosted on FlarumPro) to my own server (their's service was very slow)
But he refused to give me the config, composer files, he said it's proprietary (for me this sounds nonsense at all)

In this case, I guess I can't just import my database? What do you guys recommend? I should force him to give all the files right?

LamThai You should be good with just the database and the "assets" folder (your users' avatars). Just reinstall Flarum with all extensions you had enabled, and point to the recovered database.

How many posts/users does your forum have? Am surprised to learn that FlarumPro was slow..

Sanguine my forum currently new so not so many posts (below 50)
I got some problems with their img hosting, images disappeared after 2 days posted and they haven't fixed it for me (has been one week since I raised the issue)

Back to the problem,
Please let me know if these steps are correct:

I already had a apache with mysql running on Digitalocean, I installed PHP with all required extension (dom, gd, etc.) and composer.
I already installed fresh Flarum successfully
Now I'm at the step of creating a new database (give it a name I want, for example myforum), I will create new user
I will finish installing Flarum with these settings
Then install all the existing extensions from the old Forum
Import the database I got from FlarumPro to the new database

Did I miss anything?
I'm not a developer myself and just learned doing all this by Google and you guys

Sanguine I import the database, at Flarum installation I got this error:

Something went wrong: SQLSTATE[42S01]: Base table or view already exists: 1050 Table 'migrations' already exists (SQL: create table migrations (migration varchar(255) not null, extension varchar(255) null) default character set utf8mb4 collate 'utf8mb4_unicode_ci' engine = InnoDB

LamThai Before visiting your fresh Flarum install, create a config.php file that looks like this (fill in your database credentials):

I did it and ran into this:
"This page isn’t working 167.71.219.76 is currently unable to handle this request."

I checked current forum and saw that the settings are:
Flarum 0.1.0-beta.8.1, PHP 7.3.7, MySQL 5.7.23-log

My Installed version are:
Flarum v0.1.0-beta.9, PHP 7.2 , MySQL 5.7.27

Not sure if these are the causes of the problem

Likely not

Cause can be anything, for example a typo in your config.php. Check your server logs for any indications.

I figured it out,
The steps I did are as follow:

use composer to get flarum
create an empty database
install a bare flarum, with the same admin/password/email that I used in the old forum
import the old database to the new one
try to install manually all the extensions again
run "php flarum migrate"
the last step is to just copy over the Assets folder – which I'm still asking from FlarumPro for now

At least the new forum is running very smoothly at the moment.
