Custom Emojis/Emoticons added by the Forum Admin

I was looking at the bazaar and saw a nice extensions that adds custom emojis/emoticons called emoticonsuol to the forum, and I thought this would be a good idea to implement on the forum.
Like the Admin could go the control panel, go to a section called 'Emotes' and upload the image, choose the name and the code for the emote.

You should be able to install it on your forum and gain the functionality you desire.

jordanjay29 the problem is whenever I install a Beeta-dev plugin, I always get 500 error everywhere, even if it's not really an error, enabling/disabling other plugins get me 500 but only when a Beeta-dev plugin is installed.

I've never heard of this extension. From its composer.json file it looks like it's made for Flarum beta4. So I believe it's not maintained and not compatible with the latest Flarum.

According to this, Flarum has changed from storing shortcodes to unicode for emoji. That's gonna seriously complicate any implementation of custom emoji.

it would seem that shortcodes are still presented to the user, so we might not be completely out of luck. it'd take some tinkering to figure out how to handle this and how much work it will be. (I've got a full plate atm and really need to finish some of my extension projects before I begin any more)

Applepiee I don't think the change from shortcodes to unicode prevents creating custom emojis. A custom emoji extension could continue using shortcodes.

MartinJD you would have to familiarize yourself with the extension API if you wish to develop the extension yourself https://flarum.org/docs/extend/ Unfortunately the documentation isn't very complete at this time. The best would be to take inspiration from other extensions. And in particular here the extension would need to register new emojis via the TextFormatter, and I suppose there are multiple ways to achieve it (shortcodes, emoticons, bbcode...) but to my knowledge no one has attempted it yet. Integration with the existing emoji picker probably requires re-writing the emoji extension as it's not very extendable.

Cheers for the reply. Sounds like a lot of work. Would it be possible to just add a new button to the replies box which points to your own emojies?

MartinJD I suppose the reason it's not been done yet is because it's indeed a lot of work to implement.

If you wanted to add a button to the post composer that inserts a given image link (as markdown or bbcode), it's a lot easier. It might not be the intended experience though (no shortcodes). And building a picker/autocomplete for that instead of just a button would also require quite some work.
