Palanixx Can you tell me more about your hosts system? Though generally I assume it might be that proc_open is disabled by your host. In some cases it is possible to edit this, depending on your hosting plan/provider.

In any case, I would be better able to do a follow up on this issue if you reach out to me on discord, create a ticket in the helpdesk, or open a github issue.

It is a high priority for me to add requirement checks, but it won't arrive until next pockethold release.

@andreherberth is it normal behavior for the command box to force a refresh in page every time a download is done?

Felli current behavior replaces the console div each 10 seconds even if it has updated or not. (Ajax response)

This is basically a result of me lacking javascript skills.

I am rewriting the UI for the next release though, using mithril for routing and requests, and as it looks now, new behavior will be that it only loads new content if there is any 🙂

I use the pockethold project to learn more web development, and I believe it works, though in babysteps.

I tried installing it twice and it always stops at swiftmailer.

sorry for late reply.

My gut feeling is that it is a timeout issue,
or, that you are not waiting long enough.

I spun up two hetzner cloud instances and did a test, and on one of them, the the swiftmailer download took almost as much time as the rest put together for some reason. On the second one, it was quite quick.

As there is no 'unzip' command installed zip files are being unpacked using the PHP zip extension.
This may cause invalid reports of corrupted archives. Installing 'unzip' may remediate them.

A long time since my last (successful) use of Pockethold, I'm now trying to install it on a new site (hosted at hostgator).
Several attempts, each time freezes trying to download one of the packages.
For example, my latest attempt freezes at:

Installing middlewares/base-path-router (v0.2.1): Downloading

Previous attempt froze at:

Installing illuminate/database (v5.5.44): Downloading

and an earlier attempt froze with:

Installing symfony/console (v3.4.24): Downloading

etc... each time a different package gets stuck.

I let it try for over half an hour, doesn't move.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

emowl have you successfully used Pockethold in the past with that same hosting with the same specs ? Or maybe you previously installed beta 7 ?

It seems like something just times out, probably because of limited resources on your host. If it worked before, either it was the last beta and the new one needs just that bit more resources and it's not available, or your host changed some settings regarding memory or execution time and there's not enough anymore for Pockethold.

I know I have been fairly inactive the last few months.

Pockethold should work the same way as before, will always be limited by certain factors on shared hosts, such as php extensions being unavailable (proc_open, etc).
There are no fix for this other then working with the host itself/moving to one that don't put those limits.

I am doing work on a new version, but time has been scarce lately. One of the features added there will be requirement checks for most common problems (Like missing php extensions, unsupported PHP version etc).

The correct download to use is this: https://github.com/Pockethold/pockethold/releases/download/v0.1.0-beta.6/v0.1.0-beta.6-pockethold.zip - Some of those I have helped via Discord had downloaded another release, so make sure to use the above link.

Hi. I can't see any specific changes that would make pockethold not work with latest release, there are two files currently which I need to watch for changes on release (index.php and "flarum") and it seems those have not changed.

It does seems that some hosts I have previously verified works with pockethold have stopped working though, and I am trying to investigate.

It might not be best practice, but I successfully upgraded to Beta 9 by launching Pockethold inside the directory containing Beta 8. No issues so far, will update as I go.

Menomenta Not something I recommend per say, as what it would do is do the whole process again in its own folder and overwrite the current files. Any unneeded files would stay and not be purged, and it might create issues later on.

I am interested to know what exactly you did though, step by step. What happened after the redirect for instance. Maybe I could create an updater instead. Might be less error-prone then doing the whole process again 😁
