What about a todo board?

Lately I have going over an idea I had for a while. Some people might recognise the terminology of Kanban, Agile or Scrum. Sites like trello, github and JIRA amongst others are providing great services based on the concepts of keeping track of to-do's.

A great example of how a kanban board look as a concept.

As a proof of concept I have started implementing such a board. The concept is like this:

A board per primary tag. A primary tag marks a project or topic you want to keep track of.
Unassigned secondary tags (I call them helper tags) can be specified as columns, each board can configure different helper tags and be sorted however you want.
View and manage permissions are added in addition to the regular permissions for the forum.

With the above three principles in mind, I have been able to create a very simple first version of a board extension. Before I spend more time on something that no-one uses or needs, I'd like to hear from you whether this sparked your interest and what you think should be added to make this extension even more kick ass.

This extension most likely will take some time to come available in beta as there is lots to offer in terms of ux and functionality.

th30n3 Thank you, I'm considering adding the ability to add an Assignee to a discussion. Just unsure whether to allow one or more and whether to include permission groups as Assignees.

luceos permission to groups would make more sense in case of forums as each user group normally has collective responsibility of something.

For that I was considering several things aside from Assignee;

Native integration with Github and Gitlab, so referencing discussions (or issues by then) in commits or PR's/MR's will auto link them.
Number of comments.
Staleness.
? ? and so on should not be forgotten on cards ?

Cards in the end remain discussions and so, you can use whatever extension you need to enrich the card experience in the detail view.

andreherberth that is very kind of you. I also feel an interest for this extension, although it feels like quite the undertaking ? Is there anything you think is definitely required for you to adopt such an extension personally and/or professionally?

luceos For me to use it professionally, it would need github/gitlab integration.
(And as a bonus, being able to click a button to add a card for each open issue ? )

Additionally,
Setting a soft due date would be good.

If one was to use it on a publicly visible board, displaying images like this: https://trello.com/b/DBOhTfQm/rust-concept, would be swell.

For using it personally though, setting a fixed due date (With time?) would be the most needed.

I would prefer this over using GitHib/GitLab for Scrum/Agile/Kanban. We use it heavily in my company (but mostly Kanban as seen below):

I would say for additions, Quick Filters are very popular and I would intently use this for ReFlar ?

If a git repo manager came along with this extension or further down the line, I'd be sold ✂

Though, who says I haven't sold my soul already? ?

Ralkage professionally I also use JIRA for everything. Gravure (and so Flagrow in some sense) also uses JIRA. I do like Gitlab and GitHub with their boards (used it previously both professionally and personally), but somehow never got to keep a clear overview. This is also worrying me for this extension.

I think a good least of a minimal viable product is needed. So please do send in those requests, I plan on putting in quite some effort in this in the future.

This feature is indeed the next big thing! I've been looking for a way to have something exactly like this to keep track of my community projects among my staff inside Flarum. It's gonna be heavily useful for different environments and needs.

In addittion, I'd kindly throw my ideas if you haven't thought about these features yet

And of course: notifications when someone moves from TO DO to DOING, etc.

Can you explain this. I can't seem to make sense of it, either the heat is catching up or age is.. ?

luceos Hahaha it's mostly because of my English. Apologies. Let me put it this way:

Someone creates a discussion saying: "Hey your website has this bug with this error". Then you classify it into TODO.

After that, someone from your staff knows how to fix it but doesnt have the access/privileges to do it. So in order to make profit of time, this staff member creates a comment inside the board (avoiding everyone but staff knowing/reading the fix in case there could be some private info), with the code/message/stepts to fix it and wait for the responsible person to accomplish that.

EDIT: Or, if the case is that this extension is intended for anyone to read and keep track of the progress, then my suggestion might be a little bit dumb hehe. I was thinking on a more collaborative and secure environment where staff could share some private info in a comment textfield.

AngelAvila well that's a good question. I am basing this on the permissions already existing. If you, as admin, open up discussions but not the board, it's up to you. If you open up the board, but deny writing replies in discussions, that also possible...

This makes it all a lot more complicated and challenging ? ?

It could actually play nice with a "Support" section of a forum.

On a game forum I manage we have a place where people report issues. Having a private kanban with assignees and deadlines would be useful.

Being able to mix a private (admin) discussion with a public topic would also be an amazing feature. That way admins/problem solvers can discuss things without everyone knowing.

I also think at the moment we don't have private tags ? For example some reported issues are really not important/urgent and could go in a secret backlog (so it's still there but admins using the kanban don't see it in the list of things to do). Of course a good GitHub/GitLab integration could also allow this. The private part/tags being the third-party platform.
