Hosting Flarum on a VPS

Hi.

So, I'd like to host a Flarum forum on a virtual private server (with other applications) and I'm not sure which host to use. I've been told DigitalOcean works well, but OVH is cheaper, and allegedly, "pickier" when it comes to hosting Flarum. Any suggestions of what host I should use to host Flarum, a website and some other applications on?

Depends on your budget and what kind of project you are starting. In order to host flarum you need access to.
- SSH (command to install composer)
-File manager (if you are planning on coding)
- Cpanel with SSH if you want to install composer and you don't have much technical skills.

but what i recommend is to go with the host the provides the best support and performance as Flarum is still in Beta and many things can go wrong http://flarum.org/docs/installation/.

If you just want to test flarum but not for production than i recommend installing wamp or lamp which are webserver that you can install directly on your pc and run the flarum software in your pc.

I currently have a VPS with Liquid Web and they have been second to none. I used to use HostGator but I do advise NOT to use them. They are owned/have been taken over by EIG who are notorious for lacking in the support sector. The company basically goes around buying hosting services and companies to profit on and completely ignore customer support.

Liquid Web has been an amazing service for me over the past year since fully moving over and I have not found anything better yet. The longest wait I have had on their live chat system is 2 minutes and every matter is resolved in less than expected time. They're managed servers as well, with unmanaged packages as an alternative if that's what you prefer.

My mail server, static sites (X2), wordress (X2), a laravel project and tiny personal ruby & some unfinished node projects (and I love Vue.js much) and my flarum workz on Digital Ocean - 20 bucks droplet - (RAM usage 1.2GB with swap)

and so I recommend DO.

I have used Digital Ocean in the past, from recommendations from others. VPS's (or "Droplets") as DO likes to call them, worked very well, wasn't overly impressed with the support, but that may just be down to my experience.

But DO would be a good way to go, in my opinion.

I host Flarum on my VPS from OVH, their cheapest cloud VPS (the $3.49/month). I dont have any problems, and I run a game server, sql server, phpmyadmin, 2 websites, flarum, mybb forum, mailserver, irc server, etc on it. You just have to know how to set everything up well.
