What are the differences when customising the site? Are there other things I have to learn in order to do it or is the only actual difference the ability of not having to use a database?

People tend to recommend what works for themselves, so it's randomly useful to others.

This github search page gives you a good idea of which software are the most popular.

The Flarum community has shown a strong interest for October CMS, an integration was even considered.

bavard Maybe you are the unique here allowed to recommend something. But read the title, they said "flat-file" cms and October isn't "flat-file" CMS. So you are the unique here recommending what works for you.

Zeokat I didn't recommand, in fact I don't even use October. I suggested a CMS that many other Flarum users have shown an interest for. In the absence of requirements from the author, the popular choice is probably the best choice. If I recommanded my personal favourite then I would just be telling the world what my preference is, not what is best for the applicant.

Is best flat-file CMS of 2018 not flat-file enough for you ? Possibly not, because only the page creation is supported in flat-file install, other features need a database.

Blueh If you don't need of a hugely complicated database driven CMS, you can consider Flatpress. I have alteady suggested it in another topic here on the forum, but I don't want to be a promoter or a spammer about this CMS. Probably is not so famous but has a great potential. What do you think about It?
