I wouldn't do it with this plugin. This one is dedicated to embedding content.

I'm not sure about scraping page titles. I've thought about it because it's been requested in the past but it has some security and usability issues I'm not comfortable with. It can take a long time to scrape info from remote pages, it could be used to intentionally exhaust the server's resources by keeping the request open an arbitrarily long time and it could be used as a way to reflect some attacks.

My idea, added this plugin in flarum, because is very good and fixed performance in writer posts.
Flarum + mediaembed plugin = forum engine, it is good work, thanks, simple text, simple link, video past in post.

Marius I am running into the same issue you were where I have downloaded the extension and installed it but the extension does not appear on my list of extensions. Could you please tell me how you fixed this issue, or if anyone else had this issue, please let me know how you fixed it.

blai Actually the first post was outdated. To install the extension you need to run composer require s9e/flarum-ext-mediaembed in the root directory.

JoshyPHP Thank you for the quick response. I currently have the flarum-ext-mediaembed-master installed, would that be the same one?

Unfortunately, my shared host server does not allow me to install via composer since it takes up too much resources so I have been resorting to doing a drag and drop of the source files from your github into the flarum extension folder and doing a composer update command. I am not sure if this causes issues as I have been able to install a couple of other extensions just fine using this method. Again, any and all help is appreciated and if anyone needs anymore information, let me know!

I don't know how Flarum detects new extensions. If that's any help, there are only two files required for the extension to work:

flarum/vendor/s9e/flarum-ext-mediaembed/bootstrap.php
flarum/vendor/s9e/flarum-ext-mediaembed/composer.json

JoshyPHP Thanks Josh, I am going to keep trying to tweak things and see if I can get it to work. Of course if anyone else has some advice regarding the matter, please let me know!

You should probably look for a discussion about composer. I think there's a big thread about it but I don't have it bookmarked.

If I was you, I'd install Flarum and the extensions on a local webserver then I'd upload the files and the database to the remote host.

JoshyPHP somehow magically got it to work. For some reason when i run the remove command it installed/downloaded just fine? Weird but thanks Josh, I think I will need to read that discussion about composer eventually.

I will also keep the local > remote in mind if I run into any problems I can't somehow fix.

Hello.

I have some problems with getting mediaembed to work on flarum 0.1.0-beta.5.
I installed the extension via composer and enabled that in the settings, but mediaembed doesn't work when I save the post, youtube link is embedding properly in the preview, but after save it's still a normal link.

I already tried turning on and off extension a few times, also I did reinstall it with composer, but nothing helped yet.

ShataN Have you tried posting in a new post? I don't know what would cause that, probably a cache that doesn't get invalidated when you toggle the extension.

Maybe @Franz or @Toby will have a better idea.

JoshyPHP well, posting a link to youtube in a new topic didn't change anything. ? As always I can see video in a preview of the post, but when I save it there is only a link.

EDIT:
I am wondering if the parsing of urls didn't change, cause when I am using tags like [media]url[/media] for things like twitter in the original post, the preview works fine, twitter get embeded, but when I save the post the output is like [media]twitterurl[/media]

Is it possible to support urls ending in .txt?

eg https://domain.tld/data.txt

This would be phenomenally useful for automation since it's very difficult to edit files by 3rd party services (like pastebin - been trying automate that for awhile) during scripting but writing to something like data.txt is very easy.

Kulga No, it only works on specific hosts that must be defined in advance.

You'd have to write your own extension for something like that. Probably something with the Preg plugin.

As I mentioned before, I have been using this extensively for embedding Google Docs. It seems that it might not support docs that are hosted on Google Apps within my custom domain. Is there a possibility of support for this in the future? Thanks!

UaMV It would have to be configured for your custom domain. I don't foresee ever implementing a proper UI for it so you'd have to do it via an extension. If that's the path you want to take, this doc is a good start.
