Install Flarum without SSH

Is there anyway that I can download older versions? Specifically the one that allowed you to install it without requiring ssh access? Thanks!

I strongly suggest against it (poor or none security and/or performance, also nearly no extension is expected to work with old version).

If you are looking for ways to install Flarum without SSH access have a look at Pockethold (use search to find it) which is a non-ssh installer, or install locally before sending files via FTP.

If you still want to proceed with an old version for some testing purpose, you might want to have a look at the Releases page on GitHub https://github.com/flarum/core/releases

clarkwinkelmann pockethold freezes at 1 of 87 in the download and doesn't complete.... is there something I am doing wrong?

Can you see an error message somewhere ? (server logs, browser console, ...) This would help diagnose. Also maybe double check your server has the requirements for Flarum.

I wonder if it is the requirements that are missing... I am just trying a local install using MAMP, then I am going to try upload it to my webserver. Do you think this would work?

Frink yes this is also a valid method

EDIT: just make sure you are running the same version of PHP locally and on the server. Otherwise Composer dependencies might not like it ?

clarkwinkelmann Yes. I checked the php dependencies and they are correct... the fileinfo is present on the server. (not locally, on my webserver)

Another issue! When browsing to the page to install it on my website (beta.zaptech.cu.cc/forum) it gives me this:
The directory is not writable.
Please chmod this directory and its contents to 0775.
The directory is not writable.

Ok! I just opened it up and it said:
The PHP extension 'fileinfo' is required.
How would I solve this? (this is still locally on my computer on mamp)

Frink did you get this working ? You might have to install that PHP extension locally before being able to install Flarum.

I have no idea how you do that in MAMP. A quick search gave me this https://jellystyle.com/2012/12/installing-php-extensions-with-mamp , no idea if it helps...

Frink if you have access to your site using FTP you can CHMOD those directories to 0775 using that.

I am getting this error in the installation. I downloaded the files locally using composer, and uploaded them to the webserver. I have chmodded the files, and it is still giving me this error. Any ideas how to bypass/fix this?

BTW I have another installation that I managed to install but when I go to it, it gives me this error message:
Something went wrong while trying to load the full version of this site.
Any idea what is going on here?

Frink obviously Clark can't tell anything from such a generic message. Look at storage/logs/flarum.log for a possible reason.

did you change the permissions of the root folder ? That's a one you might miss. (if flarum is installed in /var/www/flarum for example you need to change permissions for that folder as well, otherwise Flarum can't create new files in it)

I installed the compiled one you made to a different server (zaptechadmin.cu.cc/flarum) and it worked. When I try enabling certain extensions, it tells me

On the web browser bar, when I enable the extension, it adds a ?nojs=1.... would this help at all?

Just to rule out that mamp isn't causing the permission problems?

NB!
It is compiled on a linux server with enterprise virus scaning, but I recommend always checking non official downloads yourself in any case! (This is also the reason I am reluctant to have Pockethold use a precompiled version instead of the composer approach, even though it would make things a lot easier).
