Many forums are getting errors while enabling the Categories & Discussion Templates extension, if Tags is disabled. This will brick your admin panel.

I suggest to remove these extensions together, but also I am aware that they're being used on many forums for their simplicity and high demand. I therefore ask whether we should create an issue on GitHub with all known bugs and how to (not) trigger them for others to prevent the damage for their forums, or just remove the extensions. I understand that many of you want them, but on the other hand they also cause many issues.

Also, if you get this issue, please contact us - we can help you un-brick your forum.

    zzxdzld please tell us your FreeFlarum hostname. 99% related to the error above and above.

    Unfortunately, due to the recent errors caused by two extensions, we had to remove them from all FreeFlarum forums. Namely, the "Categories" & "Discussion Templates" extensions were removed. I'm sorry to see them go, but there was no other option but to delete them, as they were causing many errors across all of the forums.

    In case these errors will be fixed, these extensions will probably make a return.

    Small warning for all forum users/admins that we might remove even more extensions when beta.14 comes out. This update will drastically change how the Flarum API works, and therefore some extensions might stop working. And if they won't be updated, we sadly can't keep them. Also because of this, the beta.14 updates for FreeFlarum might be delayed until most (if not all) extensions will be made compatible.

    Note: In case that your forum is still bugged, please tell us your FreeFlarum hostname and we will clear the cache for you (extensions get cached, and with them the errors are too).

      I unable to configure the email configuration using the default mailgun setup provided. It is working or should I switch to a different kind of a setup?

        ayyagarian by default setup, are you referring to Flarum's default blank Mailgun settings or FreeFlarum's default?

        The default FreeFlarum SMTP settings are:

        • Host: 127.0.0.1;
        • Port: 25;
        • Encryption: empty;
        • Username & Password: empty.

        If you haven't changed anything in your mail settings, it should work just fine with the default SMTP settings. If you want to set up your own Mailgun, I haven't had any experience with this at FreeFlarum, as I don't use Mailgun, but it should work.

          SKevo I've not changed anything but if I login as a user and trying to verify my email, it is throwing an error.

            ayyagarian

            POST ./register

            GuzzleHttp\Exception\ClientException: Client error: `POST https://api.mailgun.net/v3/<truncated>/messages.mime` resulted in a `400 BAD REQUEST` response:
            {
              "message": "The domain is unverified and requires DNS configuration. Log in to your control panel to view required D (truncated...)

            Your domain seems to be unverified. I don't know how Mailgun works, but this seems like an error on your side.

              SKevo This is the CNAME dalalstreet.freeflarum.com record which shall be added to my DNS records right?

              And is it mandatory that both the domain and the mailgun domain should match?

                ayyagarian as I said, I haven't used Mailgun myself, so I can't be sure how it exactly works. I don't think that the domains need to be the same, however. I have found this guide that could help you.

                We have migrated flagrow/mason and flagrow/sitemap to use the FoF version & fixed the GET 404 favicon.ico missing error that appeared in your browser console when no favicon was specified - all forums without a favicon will now get a default, "FF" favicon (FreeFlarum icon :)).

                You can, of course, change this in your Administration settings under Appearance and upload your own icon.

                If you stumble upon any issues, please contact us so we can look into it!

                SKevo As explained here, Flarum Categories can brick admin dashboards if people enable it while tags is disabled. Good new though: starting with beta 14, a dependency check will be made before enabling/disabling extensions, so this issue shouldn't be an issue anymore then

                  idkwhatusername it was removed because it was causing errors on many forums - people didn't realize that they had to have Tags enabled and then we had to unlock every forum manually, which is work we just don't have time to do so we have decided to not include it. As stated in my Discussion update post, any extension that will be causing high amount of forum errors will have to be removed.

                  Thank you askvortsov, I have seen it. Once we update to beta.14, both of your extensions should make a return, we know that they're great :)

                  Sorry, all you can do right now is just wait.
