  • Free Flarum hosting on an expert platform by FreeFlarum.com

askvortsov I've encountered some difficulties during set up, it seems to be giving me a rank regardless of boundaries. I set x to be >= than 1000 (metric was number of pots) which is far more than my posts overall and it seems to be applaying rank to my profile anyway. Same for likes.

Hey, I want to add more items to the navigation/menu. How can i?

      Hey Team
I am interested in using Flarum for my community. I am using shared hosting for my website currently.
I wanted to know what would be the better option:

      1. Host an instance of Flarum, to begin with.
      2. Host using FreeFlarum and then migrate later.

What would be the pros and cons of either approach?
Also how easy is it to install Flarum using cPanel. I would be grateful if someone can direct me to the correct guide. There are so many online that it can get confusing.

temey74938 it is up to you whether you would like to start simple and fresh or on your own

I'd recommend you to first try out Flarum by having a FreeFlarum forum, as you can migrate away very easily in just couple of steps (download your database and avatars, and then just import the database & copy avatars at your server - simple enough).

Although FreeFlarum is not designed for big forums, we've got some with more than 400 users that are operating fine on their own. And if you will hit the absolute limit (eg.: so much users that FreeFlarum won't handle it), we'll notify you.

temey74938 Also how easy is it to install Flarum using cPanel.

I haven't used cPanel myself, so I can't help you with this. Installing Flarum on shared hosting should be possible, but is a lot harder than it is at VPS with root access. Someone else might help you with this. But keep in mind that this thread is intended for FreeFlarum related support only, so I suggest you to open a new discussion with that question, to keep this one to the topic please

          temey74938 I was sleeping, would've been a faster reply otherwise 🙃

Anyways, I'd like to add that FreeFlarum's mission is to support starting communities. So, if you're looking for a quick start for your forum, FreeFlarum might be an option for you, since we won't lock you in and you are able to download the full database dump of your forum at anytime. Those are pros, so as for a con, I'd say that FreeFlarum is run by us in our spare time, and we are not a commercial entity. This also means that you can't monetize your forum, so if you're looking for getting revenue from your forum, the best option is to self-host Flarum (that's mentioned in our Terms too).

Free Flarum is like any other Flarum instance. If you start with FF and then use your own host, you will have to set URL redirects ( unless you use your domain with Free Flarum). That is if you have necessary database backups.

If your hosting has SSH access and supports using Composer, you can install Flarum. It is a command-line process now. Also, have a word with your host about the resources allotted for your account. There are some old threads that talks about lower resource allocation by the host causing issues with using Composer. I tried to do it myself through cPanel I was told that as of Composer 2 such issues are not happening.

How can i automate tasks using zapier?

lakshya you can't, as I believe that Flarum doesn't even have a Zapier integration, so FreeFlarum doesn't either.

This could be possible, so you could post a new discussion about this feature request. I don't know how Zapier works, as I've never used it, so that's something you'd have to ask in a new thread

Can we access user metrics stats somewhere(example: user posts liked by anothers). So far I saw that its possible to view number of posts and discussions of certain user.

Having such a data would make it easy for me to set up new extensions, otherwise I have to shot blindly.

I am far from being sql specialist but I know how to write basic queries.

FreeFlarum currently does not have such monitoring tool available. An extension would have to be created/added to FreeFlarum for that

You mean downloading a database dump and inspecting it? Yes, that should be possible, because the data is definitely there. With some automatization and logical SQL queries, you could technically get the results you're looking for. Although I am not aware of the exact structure of Flarum's database (Adminer is still broken for FF, I haven't had time to fix it as I still don't know where the problem is, so I don't remember where the data is stored), so perhaps you could open a new discussion and ask the rest of the community, as I am not a SQL specialist either.

1 post was split to tmp.

Hey I want an editor like this while posting a discussion my users are not friendly with codes:

askvortsov's upcomming WYSIWYG extension should have this feature. I don't know the details, it was just mentioned in another thread. But I am looking forward it too, and we will most likely include it very soon, a while after it comes out, as this is one of the most requested Flarum features.
