Would just like to know the official stand on these third-party local communities using the name "Flarum" in their domains. As far as I can see, Flarum in its infancy has attracted lots of attention and my gut tells me the attention would only pour once it's prime. At that time, wouldn't this be a copyright/trademark concern with multiple, unofficial "flarum.###" domain names?

Kakifrucht x06174 Certainly agree with the two of you regarding Flarum being open and if the communities/websites created contribute in some way.

But I'm not simply assuming someone using a top-level flarum domain for nefarious purposes. There could also be an instance of an honest, commercial business built offering services around this project. In the future, in case the Flarum project owners decide to legally safeguard their identity, wouldn't that lead to chaos?

I ran through this thread and saw a number of top-level flarum domains being registered by individuals. Even though Toby and Flarum may or may not have the legal backing to prevent such registrations at the moment, I think this practice should be discouraged keeping in mind everyone's interests. The http://flarum.today is definitely the better way forward.

uthfull as owner of flarum.today and several others. I think if @Toby would ask me to hand them over, I'd seriously wouldn't mind. At this time however the project running on flarum.today has actually made me love the software and respect its founders even more. One of the reasons I have joined them.

However I can imagine if any of the domains would be used against the best interest of Flarum, at this time, we would be helpless in taking any action. This might be a reason to trademark Flarum and take other actions to prevent any permanent damage, at least that would be my advice. I have no knowledge about the opinions of the others.

luceos I've no doubt as a valued member of this community, you have nothing but the best interests in mind which shows in what you say. But there could and certainly would be others who wouldn't hesitate to malign. There would be others who do honest work and profit from the ecosystem around this platform. There would be some more who conflict with the basic principles that govern this platform but use the Flarum identity. These are just some of the scenarios. Also, having so many unofficial top-level domains which somewhat replicate the look and feel of the main Flarum website is as much a security concern than its a trademark/copyright concern. One compromised website can lead to a lot of confusion.

x06174 I wholeheartedly support you. Development and usage must not be suppressed or curbed. But rather than using a top-level domain with only the word "Flarum", a combination of words along with the word flarum could easily get around some of the issues.

Prosperous ....And that's a wonderful suggestion. Maybe by the time Flarum hits prime, they'll have a section up front.

Never intended to go off-topic with the discussion but it just seemed a little odd that everyone was creating their own personal language forts. While that certainly leads to development of a more active base and @Toby might not invoke his rights to the project name, it would just be healthier for a project that's getting so much traction to discourage this fan behaviour. It could end up causing drama and loss of goodwill later. Just seems wise to be safer than to be sorry later. Again, the http://flarum.today effort seems better than every second individual grabbing a top-level flarum domain for a language based flarum community. Cheers!

Guys, I say that the worst thing - is suppress community. Allow communities to develop.
Now attracts me open platform. I can create a community with name of loved forum and to promote it.

I would've thought adding all forms of support in whatever language on the main Flarum support forum (this one) would be the best approach. But that's just my two cents.

This kind of websites where enthusiastic users (fans as you call them) are giving localized support to other users, translating the software they use and/or developing extensions are very common in the open source scene and even on the proprietary software world and on very few times this have been an issue.

This kind of resources (or fan behavior as you call it) is far more beneficial for any open source community than the harm you say it can potentially cause. And this is a fact, not a conjecture.

You use lot of conditional verbs: It can, it could... Potentially the world could end tomorrow, potentially Trump could win the American elections, potentially IS could win the WWIII, you could run an open source community... or maybe I could rule the World! (Bad things all of them, if you ask me)

Johann I'm not here to start some raging debate about how open source works and certainly never implied that third-party communities around platforms and projects play no role. I think you misunderstood me entirely. It's evident that you have a good sense of humour but you're taking some general observations too personally.

I won't go on and dignify my statements further; not here to spin around some doomsday theory. This is the last I say anything on this topic.

As there was hardly any activity on the international forums located at https://flarum.today, I decided to have them redirect to these forums for now. If - as a manager of one of those international forums - you would like to continue it, please contact me on gitter. Perhaps this project will once again see the light of day after a full release.

For those who want to run an international support forum, please install one at your own convenience, a new thread will arise to list these forums. This thread will close.
