Fastidious Has Atom been maturing well? Last I checked a few months back it was a little unstable.

syntactile when it first came out I tried it, and within minutes I was back at Sublime. A year after--more or less--it is amazing. Give it a try.

I've just recently uninstalled it coz it was crashing and responding slowly.
Someone said to me it was due to me having Windows 8.
Maybe. Tho Sublime 3 works great on it. Hah 😃

Been a vim user for ten years and use it almost exclusively. I do have to admit though, that for Java coding IntelliJ with vim mode is hard to beat (mostly because java integration plugins are kinda lacking for vim).

Wow. After you get past that initial learning curve and use it for awhile, you feel limited, slow, bloated when you use other text editors. You also notice having to reach for that mouse 😉
Oh well, I guess I'm one of those people. I'm just glad vi is installed like literally everywhere (worthwhile)!

xintron My data communications network professor showed us Vim in our unix administration class under a virtual machine on windows 7. Later after class when I got home, I loaded up notepad++.

I started using NetBeans, which has great features and is good for big projects, but can get quite slow. I have since changed to Sublime Text 3 (It's sooo fast!) 🙂

Wombat I tried using Atom for a little while, no denying it looks awesome, but it does considerably slow things down (especially if you have a slow PC, like me 🙂). After using Sublime Text, I couldn't go back and use any other IDE or text editor.

Hehehe, that is not what I wrote. It is my daily editor, for almost everything.

HoneyBadger Yeah, I've been using Notepad++ far too long and not sure if I could switch. I am so used to the color coded syntax on JS/PHP/HTML, if any syntaxical colors were changed my eyes wouldn't make it. And unfortunately God isn't here on the forum anymore to help me repent.

It is great to know you support the fellow at Sublime, being a paying customer. I have not known what is a slow computer for over 20 years. One of the perks, I guess, of living in a first world country.

Even with the ten or so plugins I have, and a different theme (Material UI and Syntax), Atom opens in milliseconds.

Wombat Well, you should try it out, even if you run it of a USB stick, that's the great thing about Sublime, it's super duper fast! And changing syntax highlighting is fairly simple, so I'm sure you could find a similar one!

Fastidious Yeah, Sublime can take a heavy load of plugins and still stay very fast, especially on most modern PC's.

The best computer things I've discovered (linux, terminal, vim, irssi, ffmpeg, etc) have been me taking my normal (windows, gui, notepad++ - yep, - video converter X), thinking, "I'll give it a shot" and really trying to learn this new way.

Kulga I would if I was younger man but I am stuck in my old ways... It took me YEARS to even upgrade out of windows xp 😛

And I'm developing on windows 7 64bit pro now.. and never will change to 10 until... I hope never 🙂

I love vim but I'm a visual person and I couldn't be happier than UI's are starting to mature for tools like text editing and version control. I swear I can use the terminal to do anything but I always prefer to see what's in front of me as spatial objects rather than linear data strings.

(Full disclosure I'm also a choreographer, so my visuospatial bias is not an arbitrary preference.)
